Please Note: A lot of CRMs do a VERY poor job with phone number validation as its just now a common thing. Ethlos takes a very concerted effort to account for this, along with all the different possible formats. For the purpoes of full transparency, every phone number we work with goes thru a "re-formatting" process first. We list that process below. Description You attempted to initiate an outbound phone call or send a message, but the To phone number you supplied was not a valid phone number or was incorrectly formatted. Phone numbers MUST be in E164 format :
[+] [country code] [3 digit area code] [7 digit number]
.Possile Causes
- The formatting of the
To
number submitted was invalid. - You attempted to send a text or voice call to the same phone number on your provider account. This is not allowed.
- You attempted to use a shortcode as the 'To' Phone Number.
However, for best possible performance we suggestion storing the full number including country code in your CRM.
What ever number we receive into our gateway, we take the following steps to reformat the number:
- Remove all whitespaces/blanks/spaces from the number
- Remove all special characters, like paraenthsis, commas, dots, etc
- The digits left over are counted
- If only 10 digits are found, we assume that no country code was included (in the event your home locale country does not use area code, Jamaica for example, we skip adding the country code back in, then search inside your subscriber account for our country code, and add it in. If more than 10 digits are found, we assume the extra digits are a specific country code you entered so you can text from your home locale country to another country. (If this country code is wrong, no message will be sent out, its important you get this right)
- At the very end, we add the plus sign (+) back in right before we send out the message
